More about Natural lip balm

In my previous post, i show you guys how to make a lip balm naturally.

okay. now let me explain my choice of ingredient.

1st - jojoba oil - jojoba oil is structurally and chemically very similar to the human sebum produced by the sebaceous glands in our skin because sebum is also largely comprised of wax mono esters. In most cases, it can act as a substitute while giving similar or added benefits compared to sebum. more information on jojoba oil can be found here http://thejojobaoil.com/. On top of that, jojoba oil has slight SPF which help in sun protection.

2nd - sweet almond oil - It absorbs into the skin with medium-fast speed and is a nongreasy moisturizer. While it is used for all skin types, sweet almond oil is particularly effective for dry skin that is prone to itching and irritation.

3rd - beeswax - beeswax is use as a binder to bind the oil so that upon cooled, the oil will harden and become semi solid which we can use as a balm. Beeswax is a natural wax produced in the beehive of honey bees of the genus Apis. Unless a person is allergy to bees product, this is a good natural binder to be used.

4th - Rose absolute, Geranium oil - Geranium oil usually help in the balancing of hormone in aromatherapy and rose absolute give a refreshing rose frangrance which help in uplifting of mood. These essential oil not only smell nice but help to maintain a person's mood as well.

5th - Vitamin E oil - Applying vitamin E oil to the skin has many beneficial uses, including offering antioxidants to protect against free radicals, reduce the signs of aging and replenish the vitamin in our bodies after sun or air pollution. Vitamin E will help to enhance the shelf life of oil product and thus the lip balm can be kept for a longer period as well.

its fun to learn abt all these natural pdts... and making natural pdts... i think we are in an age that things are really unhealthy and extra steps are necessary to maintain a better health.

itz really fun... but really an expensive hobby too... =P

How to make a natural lip balm

This is a guide to how to make you own lip balm at home. The benefit is that you know what went into the lip balm that you are using. On top of that, you get to choose the essential oil that you would like to add in which serve for therapeutic reason.

First, let us see what are the ingredients use.

I have sweet almond oil, jojoba oil (organic), beeswax, geranium essential oil, rose absolute essential oil, vitamin E oil and of cos, the lip balm tube. The oils can be purchase online via www.iherb.com . Use my referral quote RUV778 if you are interested to buy.

I bought the beeswax on ebay. But i notice that the booth selling honey in the Guardian in Vivocity do sell beeswax in block too. It cost $16 i think and based on the size, i think the block can make around 100 lip balms.

This is the oil that I use in my lip balm for today. This is rose petal infuse oil. I infuse rose petals with a mixture of sweet almond oil and jojoba oil (organic) in 50/50. By infusing the oil, you allow the goodness in the rose petals to be extracted into the oil

First, put these ingredients in a metal/glass container (I got the metal container in Daiso). Measure about 2gm of beeswax and 5-7ml of the infuse oil and put them in the metal/glass container as below.

Next, lets move to the kitchen. Boil some water in a pan. When the water boil, switch off the fire and put the metal/glass container in it.

Stir the mixture with a satay stick until the beeswax all melted. Add around 2-3 drop of the vitamin E oil, 1-2 drop of the geranium essential oil, 2-5 drops of the rose absolute essential oil into the mixture.

Next take the metal/glass container out and start pouring into the lip balm tube.

There you are, your very own home made lip balm.

Once it started to harden, you can cap it and wait around 2 hours for it to fully harden and tada~~ your lip balm is ready for use.

I have chose rose absolute essential oil for the rose fragrance and it provide comforting effect. Geranium help in balancing hormones.

if you like calming effect, you can use lavendar essential oil instead. the oil, you can make an lavendar infuse oil to bring out a stronger smell...

I will be making more things in the future to post it here... Stay tune... =)
